Meet Dr. Erica Langer
There are times when we need support to weather a storm and grow from new experiences, one of those times is the perinatal period. The perinatal period extends from pregnancy to one year after giving birth. It is a time of profound changes for you and your family. Typically this time is filled with hopes and dreams, worries, planning, fear and excitement! Parents can feel a lot of pressure to do things "correctly," balance work and home life, and get ready for something completely new without knowing what exactly that entails. I am here to support my patients through these exciting and confusing times. Often, parents come to therapy to reflect on their own childhood and to envision how they want to parent. Sometimes, challenges arise like perinatal anxiety and depression, birth trauma, or early parenting challenges that are unexpected and painful.
Birth trauma can have a profound impact on a person’s mental and emotional well-being, as it may lead to feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To support my patients in their healing journey, I work to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly express your emotions and share your birth experiences. I integrate evidence-based treatment, such as CBT/DBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamc work, as well as providing psychoeducation about the impact of birth trauma. Through this process you may find yourself responding differently to your emotions, able to rewrite your birth narrative, and find a sense of empowerment and agency.
